SPLIT THICKNESS SKIN GRAFTING
Split-thickness skin grafting is a surgical technique used to transplant a thin layer of skin, comprising the epidermis and a portion of the upper dermis, from one area of the body (donor site) to another area (recipient site) that has experienced injury, burns, or skin loss.
During the procedure, a dermatome or surgical tool is used to carefully remove a thin layer of skin from the donor site, typically from an area where skin can be spared, such as the thigh or buttocks. This thin layer contains the outer layer of skin (epidermis) along with a portion of the underlying dermis.
Next, the harvested skin graft is carefully placed onto the recipient site and secured in place with sutures, staples, or surgical glue. Once in place, the graft develops a new blood supply from the recipient site, allowing it to heal and integrate with the surrounding tissue.
Split-thickness grafts are particularly useful for covering large areas of skin loss, promoting wound healing, and reducing the risk of infection. Because only a thin layer of skin is taken from the donor site, healing at the donor site usually occurs more quickly than with full-thickness grafts.
Overall, split-thickness skin grafting helps to restore skin integrity, promote healing, and improve both function and appearance at the recipient site, making it a valuable technique in reconstructive surgery. This will be performed by famous dermatologist Dr. Deepali and her skilled team.
MELANOCYTE TRANSFER:
Melanocyte transfer is a procedure where melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, are transferred from a donor site to a recipient site lacking pigmentation, such as areas affected by vitiligo.
In this procedure, a small piece of skin containing healthy melanocytes is taken from a pigmented area of the patient's body or from a donor. The melanocytes are then separated and applied or transplanted onto the depigmented areas.
Once transferred, the melanocytes start producing pigment, gradually restoring color to the affected skin. This technique aims to repopulate the depigmented areas with melanocytes, helping to improve the appearance of vitiligo or other conditions causing loss of skin pigmentation, this will be performed by famous dermatologist Dr. Deepali and her skilled team.
